Spay/Neuter
Dogs do not need to breed in order to be happy and fulfilled. You the owner have the responsibility in this role. Altered dogs do not have personality changes after surgery. A well mannered dog before altering will remain well mannered, and an ill mannered dog will remain ill mannered. Dogs that are altered can live longer healthier lives free form uterine infections, certain cancers, and perianal tumors.
Because this breed is so popular we as breeders have a huge responsibility to maintain breeding stock that are free form known genetic defects. Raising litters and doing it properly involves both financial and emotional investment and is a serious consideration. Breeding should not be entered into lightly, but with much forethought. State animal welfare laws govern everyone, even the person who has just one litter. Remember, breeders have an obligation to the breed itself, the dogs they choose to breed, the offspring of this dogs, and to the families that own them.
